From 28-year-old vines on schist, conglomerate and volcanic soils, the citrus-colored 2014 Anjou Feuille d'Or offers a very clear, intense and elegant nose of ripe and juicy pineapple and quince flavors, intermixed with coolish flinty and some herbal notes. Round and finesse-full, with great elegance and balance, this juicy and fruit-intense Anjou reveals a persistent salinity and structure, as well as a very complex and powerful finish. Great aging potential, but already very charming today.

Normally I should praise the Chenin Blancs of this Demeter-certified, 11-hectare domaine in Saint Aubin de Luigné, but in this case I have to recommend the 2015 red wines La Montée de l'Epine (Cabernet Sauvignon) and Le Roc (Cabernet Franc). In their mixture of perfect fruit ripeness and concentration with lightness, purity and finesse, these are simply gorgeously refreshing and aromatic Anjou reds—perfect food wines from carboniferous schist and “poudingues” (conglomerate) soils. They could hardly be better in this authentic style.
The 2014 Chenin Blancs are very elegant, finessed and mineral, whereas the 2015 Passerillé is beautifully aromatic, juicy and stimulating.
The wines of Philippe and Cathérine Delesvaux are fermented with natural yeasts, never chaptalized, never fined, the reds never filtered and the whites only slightly filtered. For the bottling, only small amounts of volcanic sulfite are added. Delesvaux has been biodynamic since 2005.
